Genesis 1:24-2:3. A double blessing

God saw all that he had made and it was very good indeed. But only twice is his blessing given.

  • Man – created in God’s image. United and diverse. Commissioned to be fruitful and multiply, fill the earth and subdue it. Elevated to rule (1:26-28)
  • The seventh day. Declared holy, for this was the day God had completed his work. The day he rested (2:2-3)

On the first, Jesus, now crowned with glory and honour is bringing many sons and daughters to glory (Hebrews 2:9,10)

On the second, the joy of entering into that perfect rest comes by faith in Jesus (Hebrews 4:8-10)

In Christ we have a double blessing.

(Tomorrow’s readings are Gen 2:4-25; Psa 6,7; Rom 2:1-16)
