On The Level

This week we’re out and about in different locations in Brighton looking for opportunities to share the good news about Jesus. Today Julian (my fellow Grace Church Brighton Elder) and I began at The Level – a park at the heart of Brighton, just before St Peter’s on the way to the sea.

What did we do?

We very simply set up a chalk board with a question and placed a basket of books and gospels next to it on a main walkway through the park.  And from 11-2 we wandered around giving out flyers, pointing to the question and looking for opportunities to talk more

How did we get on?

Well, when we arrived at 11 it was raining! But within 20 minutes it had cleared up. So we went for it.
I found that the deepest conversations happened all within the first half an hour.

First there was the lady who had had a very emotional, spiritual experience at a large church but had never been back.

Then came a young man who seemed to long for a relationship with Jesus and took Mack Style’s book The Truth about Lies

Then there was the gentleman who initially refused any literature, but then turned back and asked for a God for Sceptics book. He shared how in his younger days he considered himself to be a born again believer but was nowhere spiritually now

Then 2 young Muslim men walked by and one took a copy of Matthew’s gospel to learn more about Isa Al Maseh

An older couple took books. He explained he was from a catholic background but was very interested in these “new expressions of Christianity.”

Most who stopped already had some religious connection in their background

But what about the majority who didn’t?

Many took flyers

Some refused

Seeds were sown but we know there must be other ways to connect

And then at 2pm it started to rain. Thank you Lord for this window and opportunity!

We go out again on Wednesday. This time there will be street preaching in Brighon city centre with help from friends from OAM
